He was alive in 1899 (pension), but we can not find him on a 1900 census.

  • Paid 9/1/1862.

  • Paid 11/1/1862.

  • Paid 6/30/1863.

  • Wounded in the Battle of Fordoche 9/29/1863.

  • March 1864 - still not fit for duty.

  • May 1864 - Oct. 1864 - sick in hospital at Beaumont.

Letter written Apr 23, 1864

In accordance with general order Number 51, I report to you for further orders.  On the 29th day of September 1863.  I received a shot wound through the right arm at the Battle of Fordoche, Louisiana.  In consequence of which my right arm is totally disabled so far, but the surgeons tell me, I will somewhat regain use of it.  Otherwise have recovered and would like to perform some service.  In my former trade as a carpenter I am not able to work but as a courier of dispatches on horseback, or in other work in office or otherwise that I can perform.  I shall take it as a favor to be employed.  I would like to have a detail at this post being that Beaumont is my place of abode here with enclosed please find surgeons certificate of this post.

  • Came to Texas in 1842.

  • Lives about 3 miles from the town of Beaumont.

  • Paid $500 for his place.

  • Was a widower with 2 girls and a boy.  Boy was 21 and youngest girl was 18.
